6 Rules For Surviving the Festive Binge


Rule #1: Eat High-Protein Breakfasts
Studies consistently show that having more protein in your breakfast leads you to feel fuller for longer. Adding eggs and milk to your morning meal could help you eat less during lunch.

Rule #2: Sit Facing Away From the Food
Remember this when you're at that potluck buffet. A study in the journal Obesity reports that looking at the buffet spread makes you more tempted to refill your plate.

Rule #3: Always Choose Smaller Plates
Simple reason: If there's less food on your plate, you'll eat less. Studies show that when people are presented with a larger amount of food, it causes them to eat 81 per cent more. Smaller plates carry less food. Eating with chopsticks will also help you eat slower (see Rule #4).

Rule #4: Slow Down When Munching
Slow eaters eat 201 less calories a day, say researchers from the University of Rhode Island, US, since it takes 20 minutes for your brain to realise you’ve had enough. Besides, you'll get to postpone boring small talk for longer.

Rule #5: Keep A One-Drink-Limit
Hey, it's the holidays. There's no reason why you shouldn't indulge in a little holiday spirit like everyone else. In fact, we even suggest you a drink—just keep it to one glass a day. Studies show that men who averaged one daily alcoholic drink were 18 per cent less likely to see their waistlines increase than teetotalers. This doesn't apply to those who drink more than that though.

Rule #6: Cardio
Just because it's the holidays doesn't mean you should abandon all exercise until the new year. Find the time to put in a workout or two in between the merry-making. Just do something. If nothing else, hit the dancefloor hard wherever you're partying at.

That damn 100km walk

Ok, a bunch of us went for this charity 100km walk again. Despite all the pain and vows last year about not taking part anymore, well, we were there again....

Now we still can pose and laugh, later then you know....



As per our tradition, must eat breakfast before we start to walk, also give the other teams a chance to have a headstart. If not we lead all the way, not very nice.

1st leg: Katong CC to Grassroots Club (Yio Chu Kang) (~11.8km)



Still happy and can joke and play, Cindy still got strength to point at the canal, dunno for what.


After 2 hours or so, still on our way to the 1st checkpoint...

On the way to 2nd checkpoint, must rain heavily. Why? You will find out in the next photo.


Because Dianne joined us....and it rained for a few hours after that....


We remained strong! walked in the rain with fashionable ponchos!
2nd leg: Grassroots Club to MacRitchie Reservoir (~10.3km)


3rd leg: MacRitchie Reservoir to King Albert Park Macdonald House (~9.9km)
Start to pain already, need to eat comfort food to feel better in order to keep walking...

For some of us, the feet became like that....


Counterpain became our closest friend...


4th leg: King Albert Park MacDonald House to Telok Blangah Hill (~11.5km)
Dianne still acting like she is not tired at all.....this leg was the most torturous, think we walked a lot more than 11.5km to reach the next check point....

See, even our ironman Derek looked helpless, summer had to hug the pillar at the bus stop and Cindy had to...erm, look worse than she already is....


After more than 3 hours, we finally reached Telok Blangah Hill....look, they were really hungry....
Sigh, some of us were already limping at this point....guess what, it was 5 hours later until we got to the next checkpoint.....
Oh yes, Cynthia and Robin came to join us at Harbourfront.....a few of us didnt make it to the next checkpoint, which was the 50km mark....for those who did, they all went home after that. haha!

We try to conduct fitness assessments periodically to allow our members to understand their fitness levels. Below are the standards set by our captain for us to guage ourselves. Do not be discouraged if you are unable to hit the standards. You are bound to see improvements with regular trainings!

A big welcome to all!

Here is a little history about how Team Sunday Dragons came about....

Founded on 15 July 2007, Team Sunday Dragons was formed by a group of us who decided that it will be fun to row with friends. We are a self-funded club manage by an Executive Committee voted in by the members while our certified professional coach is appointed by the committee.

We started as a leisure team and as we improve, we tried to be a little more competitive, taking part in quite a few major local races every year. We strive to improve ourselves every race and stay committed as a team, training and laughing together every Sunday.

So whether you are keen to try out the sport or would just like to hang around with a bunch of cool, fun and good looking people, please feel free to join us!

Life is fun around us and hope everyone in the team can truly enjoy all the sessions as fun and laughter is most important to us. Ultimately, everyone should have fun and be proud of being part of Team Sunday Dragons!
